Dish Network versus Direct TV

Dish Network

Types of Offers

When comparing Dish Network versus Direct TV, we want to be fair and line them up side by side, apples to apples. Right now, you can get over 220 channels, HBO, Cinemax, and Starz free for 3 months, Free HD for life, A Free Slingbox, Free Blockbuster Movies for 3 months and a free HD/DVR upgrade for as low as $24.99 for 12 months. DirecTV currently doesn't offer as much.

Channels

Dish Network has pretty much the same channels in comparison to pricing as DirecTV. Here you can get a look at both the Dish Network channel list, and the DirecTV channel guide

One advantage Dish Network has over DirecTV is its international programming. They have TONS of international channels and people not of American decent will love their low prices and international content.

HD/DVR Costs and Features

Comparing Dish Network versus Direct TV, as of the date I wrote this, both companies are offering their HD service Free for Life. So it boils down to the DVR service. Like DirecTV, Dish Network offers a flat “house” rate. So if you have 3 HD boxes, the HD service fee is still a flat rate. Dish Network's flat rate is $6 compared to DirecTV's $7. Their HD service regular price is $10, same as DirecTV.

Contract

Dish Network, like DirecTV also has contracts. Typically 1-2 year contracts. The reason satellite companies have contracts is because of the expensive equipment they install at your home for free. It never needs to be returned after cancellation of service, so in order to stay afloat business-wise, they must guarantee their income somehow.

Installation

There's no difference in Dish Network versus Direct TV when it comes to installation. They're both satellites so the install may be invasive. There are 4 different methods to installation. Mounted on roof or side of house, on a tripod, or on a pole in the yard.

Reliability

Satellites are known for “spotty” reception. Some people have this problem, many don't. The main thing to be sure of to ensure a reliable signal is a sturdy, grounded installation and there are no trees or structures blocking the way of the dish. If these measures are taken you should have no problems.

Check out Dish Network for more offers. Another thing to note is that Dish has a much easier program to qualify for. DirecTV's credit check is almost like buying a house!
